The performance of an Aboriginal-themed routine at the Vancouver Olympics by Russian ice dancers Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin has been branded “insulting” & “disrespectful”.
But quite frankly, I think their portrayal was so poor that it’s not even worth getting upset over.
Maybe the Russians should have stuck to the type of art & culture they know best – making porn.

I agree it looked terrible. but Ray it was branded by the Australian newspapers telling us it was insulting to Australian Aborigines.
Wasn’t the performance on an Canadian Aboriginal-theme (north American indian) and not an Australian Aboriginal theme….?
The Russian skaters and their coach have acknowledged that it was based on Australian Aboriginal dance & costume, right down to the red loin cloths. The mistake they made was not doing enough research and, more importantly, not seeking any consent & assistance from Aboriginal groups.
Don and Ray you both should buy and watch Australian produced porn and help our Australian’s porn industry and not the Russian porn industry

Thanks for the tip, Roman. Actually I don’t watch Russian porn (or any other type) but it’s pretty hard to avoid running into it when your name & email address is on a blog like this one. And it seems most of it comes from Russia.
